As a Christian community, Episcopalians believe the Church is created to be the body of Christ in the world, and that each member of that body is called to reach out to people in need. As a progressive Anglo-Catholic parish with a strong history of service to the poor and marginalized, St. Luke’s answers this call through the programs we call Outreach at St. Luke in the Fields.
These programs are independently funded and need your help! To donate online to Outreach at St. Luke’s, please click hereor call our development office at 212.647.1837. If you would like to volunteer for any of these programs, contact information is provided below. These programs are nonsectarian and welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds.
On the Block
The People Living with AIDS Project: Food, friends and fellowship for people living with HIV/AIDS.
The PLWA Project was founded in 1987 to provide a weekly meal for parishioners and their loved ones affected by AIDS. Today our Saturday Evening Suppers serve 60-70 guests each week from all over the city. So far as we know, the PLWA Project is the only program of its kind that operates on the weekends in lower Manhattan.

"The Church:" Art, Acceptance and a Place to be Yourself for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Youth and their Allies. Greenwich Village is a destination for thousands of LGBTQA young people who come from all over the city and beyond looking for a safe place to express themselves without fear of homophobic violence or moral condemnation. In 2001, St. Luke’s began opening our doors to these young people on Saturday nights by offering a hot meal, workshops in the visual and performing arts, and the services of social workers and caring adult volunteers. Today the program serves 20-30 young people each week and more than 600 youth ages 14-21 are currently enrolled.

Go-St. Luke’s: Nurturing the Love of Learning, One Child at a Time. For fourteen years, Go-St. Luke’s has provided one-on-one tutoring for underachieving but capable elementary-age children from all over the city and parts of New Jersey. Each child receives the undivided attention of a tutor for two hours each Saturday morning. The primary goal of Go-St. Luke’s is academic; the way we reach that goal is to nurture joy in learning and the confidence, strong sense of self, and healthy trust of adults that comes from meaningful interactions with teachers and tutors.
To volunteer as a tutor please email Lyn Spyropoulos at

Around the World
Myanmar Task Force In response to the devastation in Myanmar caused by Cyclone Nargis in 2008, and building on the involvement in the effort to bring aid to the people of this impoverished land, St. Luke’s formed the Myanmar Task Force in the summer of 2008. Since that time, parishioners have given generously of their time and resources, much of which went to the repair and expansion of facilities to help desparately needy children.

South Africa St. Luke’s has maintained a vital, ongoing relationship with our companion parish, Tsogong Cathedral in the Dioceseof Matlosane, since the 1990’s and before. Regular travels to South Africa and New York by members of each parish have continued in the ensuing years. Recently, in order to develop a deeper relationship than is possible in one or two brief visits, a dozen members of St. Luke’s, along with half a dozen NYU students, went to Ikageng for a week, staying with parishioners and helping them build a rectory next to their new chapel. We have also contributed financially to the parish, buying a PA system for the church and making a substantial contribution towards the construction of a new chapel in an outlying district.
